The Bear Trax and Brownie Shuffle was started in 2009 as a way to honor a dear friend, Nancy Sellars, who was killed by a drunk driver while riding her bike. The race brings people to the trails she loved at Lapham Peak and also raises money for a fund established in her name. This fund helps support the mission of Peak Nordic Ski Club, which is to promote the sport of cross country skiing, by providing an organized teaching and competitive venue for all area youth.
Course Description:
All events will be run within Lapham Peak State Park.
5K course | 10K course | 20K course
The 5K course is moderately hilly, winding through forests and meadows of the upper portion of Lapham Peak state park.
The 10K Course is a challenging course which begins along the same route as the 5K and then diverges to follow the black trail along the parks periphery and past the Evergreen shelter. It finishes up the Ice Age Trail past the tower and then along the black trail to the finish line.
20K Course: The first 5K of this challenging course winds along the upper forests and meadows of the park. Passing the start finish line, the course continues along the black trail in a clockwise fashion around the periphery of the park. The course continues past Evergreen shelter, finishing up the Ice age trail past the tower to rejoin the black trail to the finish.
Lapham Peak State Park is less than a mile south of I-94 on Hwy C in Delafield. It's about 30 minutes west of Milwaukee and 45 minutes east of Madison. Parking will be available near the start/finish area but is limited; carpooling is encouraged. All cars will need a Wisconsin State park sticker for entry. One-day passes can be purchased at the entrance. Allow for extra time if you will need to purchase an entrance pass on race day.
