"Hattie Hundred 2018" is a bike ride that offers 100 mile, 88 mile, 65 mile, 30 mile, and a family ride (5 mile) courses on trace as well as a 100 mile off trace ride. Your adventure will begin at the Hattiesburg Train Depot and follow the Long Leaf Trace along a portion of the Mississippi Central Railroad Line. For those who are not familiar with the Long Leaf Trace, it is a paved trail that follows a portion of the abandoned Mississippi Central Railroad line passing through towns such as Hattiesburg, Sumrall, Bassfield, and Prentiss.
The 5, 30, 65, 88 and 100 mile on trace rides will remain on the Long Leaf Trace, while the 100 mile off trace will explore county roads in Lamar and Jeff Davis Counties. There is 100-mile ride option that remains on the Long Leaf Trace. There will be 4 rest stops located on the Long Leaf Trace and 2 additional rest stops on the off trace 100 mile route.  All 88 and 100 milers must check in at Bassfield Rest Stop on the Long Leaf Trace by 11 a.m.  All participants must be finished by 3 p.m.

If you can't make the event or just want some motivation to run a little more (like me) then you can sign up for our virtual Hattie Hundred Run/Walk/Bike. Basically you have until April 21, 2018 to cover 100 miles either biking or running and walking. It doesn't all have to be done at once. I signed up for the 100 mile run and have covered 14 miles so far. You can sign up at www.bikereg.com/Hattie-hundred. All proceeds benefit the tutoring program at DREAM. When you complete your 100 miles you get a really cool engraved railroad spike.

HATTIE HUNDRED BIKE ROUTES

Hattie Hundred Bike Routes

  • 100 mile trace/off trace - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26204138 This has 2 separate off trace loops, but will come straight back to the Train Depot after Prentiss. This route explores some county roads in Lamar and Jefferson Davis Counties, but still covers the bulk of the mileage on the Longleaf Trace. Two routes will take you off the trace until Bassfield. After Bassfield, riders will continue to Prentiss, then return to the start/finish along the Longleaf Trace.
  • 100 mile all on trace - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26204640 It is hard to see on the route, but the riders will ride to Prentiss, turn around and ride back to Clyde Depot, they will then turn around there and backtrack to Sumrall, then back to the Train Depot to total 102-103 miles. We will need signage at Clyde indicating it as a turn around point for only that ride. This route is for those who want to stay on the Longleaf Trace for the remainder of the ride after the escorted start. This is great for a first century or for those who are uncomfortable riding on roads that may have vehicle traffic. Riders will start at the Historic Hattiesburg Train Depot and ride through downtown Hattiesburg then join the trace and ride to the end of the trace in Prentiss. They will then return to Clyde Depot where they will turn around and go back to Sumrall, then make the final leg back to the start/finish. All turns will be well marked.
  • 88 mile route - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26204880 This is just to Prentiss and back to the Train Depot.  This route covers the entirety of Longleaf Trace, starting and finishing at the Historic Hattiesburg Train Depot and turning around in Prentiss, MS at the end of the Longleaf Trace.
  • 65 mile route - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26204852 This is just to Bassfield and back to the Train Depot.  This route starts and finishes at the Hattiesburg Historic Train Depot and turns around in Bassfield, MS.
  • 30 mile route - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26204731 This is just to Epley and back to the Train Depot. This route will go by Moore's Bike Shop. This route starts and finishes at the Hattiesburg Historic Train Depot and turns around at Epley Depot.
  • Family route - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26204678 This is the route that circles by Moore's Bike Shop then goes directly back to the Train Depot once the riders are on the trace.  Fun for the whole family! Bring your kids along for a short, protected ride through the neighborhoods of downtown Hattiesburg, stopping by Moore's Bicycle shop for snacks, then returning to the Historic Hattiesburg Train Depot on the Longleaf Trace.
