From a \u201cbattlefield promise\u201d made in 1980, the SOWF program has grown to include immediate financial support to severely wounded, injured, and ill Special Operators. By providing this support, SOWF aims to help these families build brighter futures despite the challenges they face due to the loss of a loved one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:24pt\">Event Canceled! Thank you for your support, however, we are unable to set-up this event without community support and I am unable to cover the cost this year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Event:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 What: 24-HR Endurance run, walk, jog! This 4 mile loop, featuring a 200 ft. elevation gain at Boat Hill and ~300 ft. for one completed loop. Challenge your will and ability! Will you be the first person to finish 100 miles in 24hrs? While this race will be held for the full 24 hrs., any distance from all participants will be recorded to show their input and dedication to supporting SOWF for the total miles completed by all participants at the end of the event. Need an incentive to compete, the one who runs the longest distance will receive the Start\/Finish Banner and a plaque recognizing them as\u00a0<strong>The Airstrip Apex Predator<\/strong> as trophies. Last year, first place ran away with banner finishing 60 miles.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0When: 5th - 7th June, run starts &#64; 8 am on the 6th and will end &#64; 8 am the 7th. Overnight camping can start at 4pm on the 5th. Payment for camping will be taken care of at the airstrip. Camping costs $12 per family per night, paid in cash or check at the event. This will be a pack-in, pack-out event; there will be extra garbage cans to take care of extra trash. Open fires will follow the fire bans when the event occurs. (Collection of firewood is prohibited on state park grounds and military reservation.)<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Who: Anyone! It&#39;s a free event! Show up and put in your support for those who gave it all!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0What else: There will <span style=\"text-decoration:underline\"><strong>not<\/strong><\/span> be food or water readily available for purchase. The aid stations on the route will have FREE water and electrolytes for use. There will also be tools to stretch out and recover during and after the race.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/em>Aid stations:\u00a0 will be located at the base of 200 ft incline of Boat Hill and the SW loop. The starting line will house the camping, staging, flag ceremonies, Porta-potties, and any other vendors we may be able to have.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Recommended Runner Gear: Headlamp if running through the night. Personal Camping gear if staying either night. Through countless surgeries, hospital stays, treatments, and daily challenges, Jill faced her illness with quiet resilience, grit, and grace\u2014never allowing it to define her or diminish the love she gave to others.<\/p>\n<p>In early 2025, Jill was diagnosed with oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma. She approached this battle with the same determination and grace that defined her life. On May 2nd, Jill underwent major surgery that included extensive lymph node removal, partial mandible (jaw) removal, and complex reconstruction using a titanium plate, followed by reconstructive surgery. Her treatment continued with 33 rounds of radiation and multiple rounds of chemotherapy. Despite setbacks, severe side effects, and overwhelming physical challenges, Jill pushed forward with unwavering resolve, always focused on her family and the people she loved.<\/p>\n<p>In August 2025, Jill was hospitalized after developing a blood clot in her lung. Following additional procedures, doctors discovered the cancer had spread. With love, clarity, and extraordinary courage, her family made the difficult decision to bring her home, where she passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on September 22, 2025. Race weekend falls on Jill\u2019s birthday, making this gathering an especially meaningful celebration of her life.<\/p>\n<p>Jill was the heart of her family and a bright light in the Beaver County community. She lived guided by the values she cherished\u2014love of family, service to others, a strong work ethic, kindness, and gentle leadership. Whether as a coworker, friend, volunteer, or quiet supporter behind the scenes, Jill had a rare way of lifting people up. Since then, the Shelter has developed and grown onto a long-term residential treatment facility. In April 2002, a new 7,000 square-foot facility was built on a two-acre lot at South 26th and Quincy. The shelter is licensed for eight girls, ages 12 \u2013 17 years old. During the Summer, our girls volunteer for one of our sponsors or a United Way agency.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Girls Shelter strives to develop its residents into responsible citizens and community members. The girls are:<\/p>\n<ul><li>Taught social and independent living skills.<\/li><li>Given a sense of self-worth and taught to be responsible for their actions and decisions.<\/li><li>Taught job skills and money management by working summer jobs.<\/li><li>Required to attend and take an active part in school.<\/li><li>Given individual treatment plans including structured goals and objectives.<\/li><li>Provided counseling.<\/li><li>The long-term goal of the Girls Shelter is to reunite the resident with her family.<\/li><\/ul>\n<h3><u>OUR MISSION<\/u><\/h3>\n<p>Our mission is to provide a safe and encouraging atmosphere in a residential setting for at risk females aged 12 \u2013 17 years; to promote positive behaviors, character enhancement, educational advancement, and to reunite with family.<\/p>\n<p>Many of our residents have had a less than desirable childhood. Common histories include physical and sexual abuse,<br \/>parents with drug issues, parents in prison and homelessness.<\/p>\n<p>We teach personal responsibility, independent living skills and positive social skills. We provide case management,<br \/>individual and family counseling.<\/p>\n<p>We provide a safe home environment, all food, transportation, personal items, and clothing.
