Join Michigan Fitness Foundation, Crim Fitness Foundation and the North American International Auto Show for the Annual Auto Show 5K Run/Walk, a great morning run along Detroit's fabulously artistic Dequindre Cut.
From Atlas Obscura
"This railway-turned-greenway provides a pedestrian link in downtown Detroit and celebrates urban artwork.
Its long history speaks to Detroit’s industrial heritage. A railroad was laid down along this corridor in the 1830s by a precursor to the Canadian National Railway. The route saw plenty of traffic over the following century, when the city was a burgeoning industrial center. By the 1980s, though, the railroad had closed to both pedestrian and freight traffic, and the line’s fate was uncertain.
In 2009, the tracks were replaced by a paved greenway, much of which is below street level. The 20-foot-wide path links the city’s bustling Eastern Market district with the waterfront, and the route is a pretty spot for an afternoon amble or bike ride, streaking past colorful murals and graffiti."
The race will start and finish at the DNR Outdoor Adventure Center. This year will be the last year the race will take place in January as the Auto Show is moving to June in 2020.
The world’s automotive and mobility leaders gather for three days of worldwide product and technology debuts all under one roof. Last January, the 2018 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) featured 69 vehicle introductions, including 52 worldwide debuts. News coming out of NAIAS is heard across the globe as nearly 5,100 journalists from 60 different countries head to the Motor City annually to attend this great showcase of all things automotive.
Tickets to the Auto Show are available for purchase for $11 (discounted from the usual $14 admission fee) during the registration process and any tickets purchased will be available for pick up at the DNR Outdoor Adventure Center the morning of the race. Just look for the table with the tickets.
