Miles for Moffitt began as a tribute to cancer survivors everywhere and to celebrate Moffitt Cancer Center's 20th anniversary in its efforts to "contribute to the cure and prevention of cancer."
In 2006, when this race began, I only knew one person who had been diagnosed with cancer. She happened to be my best friend. She could not stop praising Moffitt for the care she had been given as a patient and for their expertise in treating and curing her cancer . Fast forwarding to twenty-one years later, now I am now a 12 year survivor of Non-hodgkins lymphoma. No one in my family had a history of cancer. It was quite a shock. Today, cancer has threatened other family members so that now, beginning with me, we have three generations of cancer survivors. It's not a club anyone looks to join.
If you are on this page, you know that my husband, Bill Dalton, is a researcher, medical doctor, oncologist and past CEO of Moffitt. He was worked his life to help try to cure cancer. He is still working at it. We have attended every Miles for Moffitt and are thrilled to see the money being raised for cancer research. It takes money to conduct research. It takes research to find a cure. Together, let's find those cures by funding the research being done by the brilliant researchers and caregivers at Moffitt. We are so fortunate to have this cancer center in Florida, let alone in Tampa!
Research at Moffitt results in new clinical trials and new treatments that help improve the lives of those touched by cancer. I am so happy to know Moffitt is on top of this!
Please join us in raising funds for patients, families, survivors, and caregivers by joining our team or making a gift to our team fundraising page. Whether you can give $10 or $1,000, every dollar matters to supporting Moffitt's mission - to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer.
Thank you for your support and being an important part of the Miles for Moffitt community!
