At 14 months old, Palmer faced another challenge when we learned she had a congenital diaphragmatic hernia, and that her liver had moved up behind her heart. Once again, we found ourselves back in the care of the same hospital that had already become such a big part of our story. And once again, we were met with the same calm, expertise, and compassion.
Today, Palmer is everything you would hope for after a journey like hers and more. She is strong, sassy, and completely full of life. She loves dance class, gymnastics, swimming, and is currently very into K-pop Demon Hunters, like many kids her age. Our days are filled with dance parties in the kitchen and weekend pizza nights at our favorite spot.
It is hard to look at her now and remember how fragile those early days felt, but we do not forget. Even looking back at pictures brings back a wave of every emotion we felt in those moments. They say that when you have a child your heart lives outside of you, and that has never felt more true than it did during that time.
Nationwide Children’s Hospital gave Palmer the chance to grow into exactly who she is today.
That is why I run.
I started running the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Half Marathon after her surgery as a way to give back and hold onto everything we went through. Every mile is for her. For the moments we were unsure. For the moments we had to trust. And for the families who are standing in those same rooms right now, waiting for answers.
If you feel moved to support, we would be incredibly grateful. Your donation helps make stories like Palmer’s possible and gives more families the care, support, and hope that carried us through.
Thank you for being part of her story 💛
