More than 1,000 infants from across the region are cared for each year in the Neonatal ICU at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children. Generous community donors play a tremendous role in ensuring the NICU has the best in technology so that these babies receive the level of care they need. Virtually every piece of equipment in the unit has been purchased through philanthropy, thanks to Melissa’s Fund and Huntsville Hospital Foundation donors.
In November 2005, Amy and Chris George established the Melissa George Neonatal Memorial Fund at Huntsville Hospital Foundation in memory of their infant daughter Melissa Suzanne. The Georges’ twin daughters, Melissa Suzanne and Ann Catherine, were born 14 weeks early, and Melissa passed away just a few hours after birth. Ann Catherine, now a healthy teen, spent the first 68 days of her life in the NICU at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children.
Last year, you helped us provide 70 NICView cameras to connect families with babies in our NICU, and we know those cameras will be a blessing for the families who are separated from their babies. Proceeds from our 2021 Sweet 16 celebration will be used to provide new Giraffe OmniBeds for our most critically ill patients, an infant-driven feeding program, and a simulation doll for training for NICU staff. We hope you’ll open your hearts again this year to help us fund this important equipment. We can't do it without you!
