First and foremost, I would like to thank you for sponsoring Upward Bound’s 1st Annual 5K Run Fundraiser last year. It was a great success due in large part to your support.
Upward Bound targets low-income, first generation students and those who are at a high risk for academic failure. Participants are mentored and supported during their high school years to achieve success in completing their high school education and enrolling in college. The ultimate goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of post-secondary education.
To motivate and encourage our students toward success, we offer a summer trip to our seniors. Students are encouraged to do fundraising during their high school career to help pay for their senior trip which is generally in Destin, Florida. In order to be eligible for this trip they must raise $1450 over four years. This trip is an incentive tool to encourage students to finish high school successfully and begin their college careers.
This trip is not supported by our federal grant funds. In order to continue giving our disadvantaged students this experience we have had to depend on various fundraising activities and support from donors like you.
