Hello!
I am taking the Step Up For Moms: 40,000 Step Challenge to benefit the AFE Foundation, a cause that is important to me personally.
If you've followed me for a while you know that I post about AFE and the foundation often. I've participated in and started many fundraisers for this very rare, life-threatening, birth complication, and I will continue to do so in the future. The support I've received from all of you, the hospital, and especially the AFE (Amniotic Fluid Embolism) Foundation has been unmatched. The least I can do is continue to advocate and raise awareness.
Amniotic fluid embolisms are extremely sudden and unexpected. It's so rare that the diagnosis of this syndrome lacks any specific laboratory test or confirmation imaging... the diagnosis is made when everything else has been ruled out. Published rates of survivability range from 20-60%, which is dependent on many different factors. AFEs are extremely difficult to treat and are considered one of the MOST fatal birth complications in the world.
Research is CRUCIAL to aid in the understanding of AFEs, and with your donation, the foundation can continue to advance research, promote education, and elevate awareness. I know I personally wouldn't be where I am without the foundation.
