Description
The mission of the Yellowstone Rapids is to promote health, fitness, and community through practices, races, and social events. This club is open to youth ages K-12th grade. Practices will go over various events at a track meet. We will have a running workout every practice and then options to do a variety of field events (long jump, triple jump, shot put, etc.)
Practices will be held at West High School from 4:30-6:00 p.m. Kids ages 5- 6th will be from 4:30-5:30. Ages 7th-12th grade from 5:00-6:00 p.m. This will allow a little more personal time with kids! Practices will be at West High School on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Area competition schedules will be passed out at the parent meeting June 10th. Meeting will be at West High School Auditorium at 4:30 p.m.
MORE DETAILS:
The track sessions start on June 10th (parent meeting only) and then kids come on the 12th. Then it is every week until July 19th. July 19th is the Big Sky State Games which is our end goal. The track sessions are track oriented. WE warm up as a team and go to different event areas (jumps, hurdles, relays, sprints, distance, throws). There will be time to do two different events at each practice. We won't have practice on July 3rd. At the parent meeting, we have a schedule of coaches who will be there (for example the throws coach will only be able to help on Thursdays) and a schedule if you want to register for other meets. Practices start at 4:30 for kids K-5th and last until about 5:30 and then older kids are 5:00-6:00 (6th-12th).
If you want to do only the track club, sign up for sessions. We have offered 10 sessions (which means you are coming every Tuesday and Thursday until Big Sky State Games) or 5 sessions if you have other things going on. The 5 session option is to allow you to participate at some level, even if you can't commit all the time.
RUNNING CAMP
The running camp is a bit more "running" related. High School kids are mentors/coaches and take kids around and they learn about form and pace and all things running. On the final day of camp, we have a track meet at West (Yellowstone Rapids also can compete) and they participate and put to practice what they learned. This camp is the 17,18, and 19th from 8:30 to 10 a.m. in the morning.
If you have any questions please call Coach Zent at 406-231-6308. Thanks!
