Rochester Area Triathletes or RATs, is an Upstate NY-based, diverse group of 150+ multi-sport enthusiasts dedicated to supporting "Athletes of All Abilities". Our mission is to promote healthy living and physical activity through multi-sports, which positively impacts our community. We provide a safe, educational, and encouraging environment for our members to network while developing their multi-sport skill sets. We also collaborate with other area athletic groups that share similar goals.
Throughout the year, RATs maintains a consistent, seasonal group workout schedule for our membership to continue their activity or for those preparing for races. In the warmer seasons, we offer Swim-Bike-Runs, Run-Bike-Runs, Open-Water Swim, Long Bike Rides. In the off-season, we offer indoor spin/swim classes. Members typically get together informally for trail running and other activities too. So no matter what level of athlete you are or race distance you are training for, we have something for everyone. Most importantly we keep it safe and fun!
RATs hosts two multi-sport events in the summer; the Rochester Triathlon which takes place in late August at Durand Eastman Beach on the shores of Lake Ontario and the Rochester Duathlon which rotates location annually. Registration for either event is open to the public and certified by USAT. RATs also promotes getting kids involved in multi-sport through sponsorship and direction of the Rochester Youth Triathlon which now will occur on the day before the adult race.
We also have Happy-Hour networking after evening workouts, and a picnic at the end of the Triathlon season for all members and their families.
RATs members receive deep discounts on equipment and apparel from some of our local bike and fitness stores, as well as national manufacturers too. A membership into RATs practically pays for itself usually on the first purchase. For those new to multi-sport, "what should I buy" can seem like a daunting task but having experience people to seek advice will make much easier.
For those new to multi-sport, one common denominator you will find is that we are all one big family and we genuinely care about each other. We want to help our members achieve their goals, no matter what speed that may be. Because a majority of our membership does compete in other local races, RATs typically supports them and their friends/families with presence (tents, coolers, chairs, etc...) where multiple members plan to participate.
So if you're thinking about doing a Triathlon, Duathlon, Aquabike, or whatever, there is plenty of reasons above to join RATs.
