Richmond Road Runners Club

CODE OF CONDUCT

Board Approved: February 21, 2018
Revised & Board Approved: April 10, 2019

The mission of the Richmond Road Runners Club is to support running and healthy lifestyles in the Richmond, Virginia region. Runners have come to value the ideas, expertise, and knowledge base the Club has to offer.  We strive to encourage all members and event participants through mutual respect and positive attitudes. As leaders in the fitness community, we hold ourselves to high standards of integrity and principle.

All share the responsibility for maintaining a thriving, vibrant club, and thus all have the same commitment to upholding its standards.

This Code of Conduct is created for the safety and benefit of the Club, its members, and its guests. Its provisions apply to the officers and directors of the Club’s board, Club members, vendors, event participants, volunteers, and spectators.

During all RRRC events and activities, we shall:

  • Conduct ourselves in a manner that will ensure a welcoming, respectful and comfortable Club environment for all—free from harassment, dishonesty, and intimidation.
  • Never make unwanted verbal, sexual or physical contact with others.
  • Refrain from using negative, disparaging, or derogatory language when interacting with Club members, participants, volunteers, and members of other running clubs at races, training programs, group run, activities, social events, clinics, and seminars, or via the Internet in public or Club forums and social media sites.
  • Respect age, religion, ethnic background, gender, and sexual orientation when interacting with Club members, participants, volunteers, and members of other running clubs at races, training programs, group runs, activities, social events, clinics, and seminars, or via the Internet in public or Club forums and social media sites.
  • Behave in a manner that is safe, and that does not put ourselves or others at risk of physical harm or legal liability.
  • Observe and obey all rules and regulations governing races, training programs, and competitions.

Members found to be listed on a sex offender registry, convicted of a sex crime, or caught having, creating, or distributing child pornography will be immediately barred from membership and all participation in Club activities. In addition, members with a criminal history of violence or with a legal restraining order against them by another member may be barred from membership and participation in all Club activities. The provisions in this paragraph also apply to individuals who are not Club members but who are vendors, event participants, or volunteers at club races, training teams, or other Club events.

Our Code of Conduct will be included with all membership applications and renewals and members will need to document acceptance as part of membership registration. Our Code of Conduct will be posted on the Club’s website, including the registration site for each Club race, training program, competition, or other Club event.

A complaint about a violation(s) of the Code of Conduct should be presented in writing (or via email) to the RRRC President (president@rrrc.org). The written request to address concern(s) about a violation(s) of the Code of Conduct should outline specific concerns without making threats, personal attacks, accusations, or using inflammatory language. The concern will be investigated, and the findings reported to the Board of Directors. The Club’s Complaint Resolution Process outlines the process in more detail.

The Board may fashion a remedy depending on the severity of the violation. Sanctions may include, but are not limited to, a verbal warning, a written warning, cancellation of RRRC membership, and/or prohibition on registering for and attending Club races, group runs, activities, social events, clinics, and seminars.
