Description

Welcome to the Yorktown Triathlon Club. We are a USAT sanctioned club whose goal is to support, mentor, and bring together endurance athletes of all ages and abilities in a friendly environment where all can learn, teach, train, race and socialize together. Whether you’re just getting involved in endurance sports or you’ve been doing it for years, everyone is welcome.

Although triathlon is an individual sport, we believe every athlete can benefit from the shared experience and support this club provides. The club can be there for you, either by helping organize group rides, swims, and runs, providing training partners, cheering for you on the course, or scheduling opportunities to learn new skills through clinics.

Currently, my wife Kay and I are retired, living in Williamsburg. Prior to retirement we lived in Norfolk, VA where I was a Membership & Fitness Director for the YMCA of South Hampton Roads. I’ve also worked as a volunteer / part-time Strength & Conditioning Coach for Norfolk State University (Baseball, Softball, Basketball, Tennis) and the College of William & Mary (Track, Swimming, Golf, Gymnastics). Along the way I’ve picked up a few certifications ranging from Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) to Yoga Instructor (YMCA). My current non-tri exercise of choice is Pilates.

I have one son, and two grandsons living in Richmond, so the move from Norfolk to Williamsburg closes the travel gap.

A mid-westerner, I went to High School in Rockford, Il, and College in Iowa (go Drake Bulldogs). A lifetime learner, I received my MBA from ODU in 2003, and my MS Kinesiology from A.T. Still in 2015.

My first triathlon was in 1989; the Outer Banks (NC) Sprint-Triathlon. My most recent was the 2019 Outer Banks Sprint-Triathlon. In between I’ve participated in over 60 triathlons and duathlons.

I’ve been involved with the Yorktown Triathlon Club for the past few years, helping where I can with volunteering and serving as Sponsorship Coordinator.

I joined the sport of triathlon in 2006 after joining a local swim group.  I found it to be a welcoming and challenging sport and have competed in sprint through to half Ironman distance races.  My favorite discipline is running!  I am currently rehabbing an injury but look forward to getting back to racing as soon as I can.

Social and Media Coordinator - Alex Wall

Hey, I'm Alex. The British guy. I'm 30-something years old and firmly in love with our sport of Triathlon. I started out as a runner at University focusing on 10k and Half Marathon distance, with a couple of Marathons thrown in for good measure. When relationships (Wine & Cake) took hold I switched to Aquathlon and then Triathlon as a coping strategy for my deteriorating performances in running.

Started out with local sprint distance triathlons and then decided to give an Ironman a go (Missing out Olympic and Middle distance races). I completed Ironman Wales in 2018 and Ironman 70.3 North Carolina in 2019 (With some amazing YTC supporters <3)

Back home I'm a qualified sports massage therapist and have enjoyed being part of the race massage teams of Ironman UK, Ironman Hamburg and Ironman Frankfurt. Love the race day buzz!!!

As much as I love to race, triathlon for me is just as much about the people that we meet along the way and the teammates who we can also drink wine and banter with.

Race Coordinator - James Blubaugh

Hello, I am James Blubaugh your new RACE COORDINATOR.  I look forward to establishing a list of club supported races, with input from the members, and fostering a team atmosphere where ever we go.  A little about me, I came into the sport 6 years ago and have raced many events from triathlons, mud runs, swim runs to half marathons. This year I look forward to trying some adventure racing. I am a retired Navy sailor that now supports submarine construction at NNS. I look forward to meeting you all and providing you a great supported race at some of our local events. Have a Super Happy Attitude-James.
