Transfer to Another Runner

On certain races, the race director may give runners the ability to transfer their registration to another runner. If this option is available to you, then these instructions will let you know how this process works.

IMPORTANT: Not all races allow for user initiated transfers. If you don’t have this option, please contact the race directly to learn more about their specific transfer policy.

How to Transfer to Another Runner (Bib Exchange)

Keep in mind, if you do not see the following features available from your profile, then the race does not have this feature enabled, and you will need to contact them directly to request this edit. They can be reached by going to the “Race Page”, scrolling down to the “Race Contact Info” section, and filling out the “Questions” form.

Why is my registration not showing in my profile? +

Don't worry! Most of the time you are registered, but your registration is just associated with a different account.
  • Your registration is associated with a sub-account of another user
      Someone registered you for a race using their account, so you were created as a sub-account. See here to learn how to transfer the registration to your existing account.
  • Your registration was imported
    • A lot of races will process entries manually. You just need to claim your uploaded account as described here
  • You used a different email address to register
    • You can merge accounts with different email addresses by following the guide here
  • You did not complete your registration
    • First look to see if you are registered on this race's "Find a Participant" page. If you still do not see yourself and have a charge on your credit card that has posted, please contact info@runsignup.com. If you do not see yourself here, and you also have no charge on your account, then you are not yet registered.
  • You registered under a typo
    • If you find your registration on the race's "Find a Participant" page, but you don't see it under your account (and you have claimed ALL possible accounts as explained above), then you may have registered under a typo. Please contact info@runsignup.com.

Some races offer runners the option to transfer, or gift their registration to another runner. If the race does have this feature enabled, then you can find it by following these steps:

  1. 1. Sign In to RunSignUp
  2. 2. Go to your Profile
  3. 3. Click My Registered Races
  4. 4. Click Manage next to the registration that you would like to transfer to another person
  5. 5. Click the Transfer To Another Runner menu item
  6. 6. Fill out all required fields
  7. 7. Select either Transfer as a Gift or Transfer for Refund

Why do I not see this option? +


This race may not have this feature enabled, or they may have disabled participant management of this feature.

Please contact the race directly with any further questions by using the "Race Contact Info" section of their SignUp page.

Once under the “Transfer to Another Runner” tab, you will be able to make sure that you have selected the correct registrant and event for this transfer. Using the fields for first name, last name and email address, indicate the user that you will be transferring your registration to. If available, select whether this transfer will be a Gift or if it will be a Transfer For a Refund

Note: The recipient will be guaranteed a spot in the race, regardless of whether or not the event has filled up already. However, they will be required to register prior to when the event registration closes.

Transfers For Those Who Did Not Register on RunSignUp

If you registered offline, and paid your registration fee in person, then the race director may import your registration into their online race records. While any runner who is imported into the race will still have the option to “Transfer to Another Runner” online, they will only be allowed to choose “Registration Gift”.

Note: Since the original registration fee of an imported registrant would not be calculated into the transaction, the “Registration Transfer” would be equivalent to registering.

View/Edit Your Transfers

After doing a “Registration Transfer”, you can view your “Transfers” under the “Registration” tab. From here you will have the option to “Resend” the transfer notification email to your desired recipient. You can also “Cancel” the transfer if it has not yet been accepted.

Transfer Types

There are two different types of transfers. Transfers can be done as a “Registration Gift” or a “Registration Transfer”.

Transferring a Registration for a Partial Refund

If you would like to transfer your registration and receive a partial refund, then click on the button labeled “Transfer for Refund”.

A breakdown of the transfer transaction will be available for reviewing, and if everything is correct, then hit “Transfer Registration”. You will be brought to your transaction’s confirmation page, where it can be printed out for your own records.

IMPORTANT: If the registrant does not accept the transfer, then you will not receive a refund. You will, however, still be eligible to use your registration on race day.

Gifting a Registration

When transferring a registration as a gift, you will not receive a refund of your original registration fee, though instead, your recipient is allowed to register free of charge.

Note: There is no charge for variations in event cost, even if the original entrant registered during a lower priced registration period. Also, in some cases the giver of the gift registration may need to pay a processing fee for gifted transfers if the race director has applied a fee.

If you click on “Transfer as Gift”, then a breakdown of the transfer transaction will be made available to you. If the race charges a fee for gift transfers, then enter in your credit card information in the fields provided.
