Description

Join the Maryland Army National Guard 58th Troop Command for the Maryland National Guard March Against Hunger Norwegian Road March. We will march 18.6 miles while carrying a 25-pound rucksack. We encourage participants to pack their ruck with 25 pounds of food to donate at the end of the march. To earn the Norwegian Foot March pin, participants must complete the march within the designated time for their gender and age. See below for a detailed breakdown of the time standards.

Our event will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2020, at the Blue Crab Stadium in Waldorf, Maryland. Registration starts at 0600 and ends at 0745.

 

UNIFORM:

  • All Participants (Military or Civilian) will wear ACU or BDU. Nonstandard T-shirts may be worn in place of the regulation T-shirts (Under Armor, for example) as long as it is of the same color. Distinctive unit T-shirts are authorized and is encouraged for unit esprit de corps for wear underneath the ACU/BDU coat.
  • Footwear is limited to Army authorized boots. (NO Hi-Tec or similar civilian style boots)
  • ACU/ BDU patrol cap will be worn during event.
  • Load bearing Vest or Load carrying equipment with at least pistol belt, suspenders, two ammo pouches and two one quart canteens are NOT required but may be worn.
  • Each individual is required to carry a military issued rucksack with frame weighing a minimum of 25 pounds (Weight will be made of non-perishable food that will be donated after race).  Each rucksack will be inspected and weighed prior to starting the march and again at the finish line as the participants complete the march.
  • Reflector belt is required to be worn by each participant during the entire march.

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

  • Drink plenty of fluids and hydrate prior to the march. There will be a water station every three miles of the route. 
  • Ensure you train and condition. Build your miles, gradually, over a period of time. Wear quality boots and ensure they are broken in before the march. Do not wear new boots on the march. 

All registered participants need to be signed in no later than 0745. Sign in will begin at 0600 day of the race.
