On April 26, 2025, I’ll be riding my bike to Sacramento with hundreds of other community members, parents, educators, and middle and high school students as part of Ride 4A Reason—a 45, 68, and 110-mile ride to raise money and awareness for public schools in Oakland and Alameda.
Oakland has been my home for nearly 12 years. I’ve had the privilege of knowing incredible teachers and students who show up daily with dedication, creativity, and resilience, despite working within a system that too often underfunds them. Education is more important than ever, and I believe all students deserve access to joyful, enriching learning experiences. The impact of education ripples out into the larger community, and we all benefit from a strong educational foundation for generations to come.
Over the past few years, we’ve seen how deeply inequities are baked into our education system. Now, as short-term funding has dried up and schools face even greater challenges, I’m more committed than ever to supporting the people and programs that help students—and thus our wider community—thrive.
Thanks to last year’s ride, more than 6,000 kids at eleven public schools went on field trips, visited school libraries, experienced the awe of river rafting, and wore team uniforms—many for the first time. Every child should have these kinds of opportunities, and this ride helps make that possible.
This is Ride 4A Reason’s 17th year on the road, and over that time, they've raised nearly $1.8 million for Oakland and Alameda public schools. I’m proud to be part of this effort.
