Never Run Alone

Lori's Hands provides education to undergraduates through meaningful service to chronically ill clients in the students' communities. In the classroom, students learn about chronic illness from a wide a wide range of interdisciplinary perspectives. Topics include public policy, the economic burden of healthcare in America, Caregiver Role Strain, and a patient's own sense of identity. In addition, students are required to make a weekly volunteer visit to a client with an illness such as cancer, Parkinson's, COPD, ALS, or MS. They assist their clients with cleaning, yard work, grocery shopping and other household chores. The organization connects energetic college students with local residents, fostering a positive cross-generational relationship between the campus and the surrounding community.
