William Boone Dixon (November 24, 1981-May 21, 2020) epitomized the phrase “sisu,” a Finnish idea described as a stoic determination, tenacity of purpose, grit, bravery, resilience, and hardiness. Boone was a revered and dedicated father, husband, son, teacher and friend whose immeasurable impact can be felt in our local community and abroad. He enjoyed international study and travel, with favorite destinations including Denmark, Iceland, and Japan, but he found his way home to Maryville to plant roots and share his love of the world and education with his students and athletes.
The Boone Dixon Memorial Scholarship was established by a former student athlete, friends, and Maryville Junior High School teaching colleagues through the Maryville City Schools Foundation. The purpose is to provide scholarships to well-rounded, determined, and compassionate students at Maryville High School who will be enrolling in four year colleges or universities. The first recipients, a male and female member of the Class of 2021, will be awarded a one-year scholarship in the spring.
The 2020 Rebel Run will be donating $1 per registration and donations collected through RunSignUp to the scholarship fund.
