It has been 4.5 years since my diagnosis! God is good! I am in medical remission. Meaning my cancer is barely detectable but since it is an incurable cancer it will return. When that is, is up to chance and God. Research is the key to beating this disease head on. Join me in the fight to defend my right to life!
I am participating in the 2025 Defeat Multiple Myeloma Run/Walk on Sunday, June 29. Each donation plays a part in bringing myeloma treatment options to patients faster and helping fund research to find a cure for this cancer. Together, we are building community, supporting survivors, remembering loved ones lost, and funding research that is giving new hope to patients. We are committed, we are strong, and our impact can be enormous. You can join this walk virtually on the day or another of your choosing. Any support is welcome.

What is Multiple Myeloma?
Multiple Myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells found in bone marrow. Normal plasma cells help the immune system fight disease, but when plasma cells become cancerous they grow out of control and can produce a tumor called a plasmacytoma. If someone has more than one plasmacytoma, they have multiple myeloma. I have many myelomatous lesions in my bones. This makes them weak. I had a hip replacement shortly after diagnosis and have continued pain 4.5 years after the surgery. I was in a clinical trial that showed adding a Monoclonal Antibody would increase overall survival and increase time to relapse. I have been taking this additional treatment since October and has affected my quality of life. However, April I will be only taking these treatments once per month. I will be good for game day!
Why support this event?
Defeat Multiple Myeloma’s mission is to raise awareness of multiple myeloma while supporting research that seeks to discover new treatments, improve the quality of life for myeloma patients, and ultimately find a cure for this devastating form of cancer. Funds from the 2025 Defeat Multiple Myeloma event will continue to support immunotherapy research and clinical trials at Fred Hutch which are using CAR-T cells and have shown very promising early results for patients.
