Anyone who knows me knows I am obsessed with waterskiing and boats. Yes, still! My obsession may have gotten worse in the past 2 years as well; just ask my water ski friends (you know who you are). I probably ask my husband to buy me a boat at least 10 times a day, all in jest, of course. :)
What does this have to do with a fundraiser to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis? Well, most of you know that I have Cystic Fibrosis as well as Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes (or as I like to call it "buy one disease, get the second free"). Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that creates thick, sticky mucus in my lungs, my pancreas, and many other parts of my body. That mucus can then get infected, causing serious and sometimes even deadly complications. Those lung infections over time can shorten the life span of people with Cystic Fibrosis. With medical breakthroughs, however, CF patients have been living longer. When I was diagnosed at age 8, my parents were told I might live to see 20. The average life expectancy is now 41, and I am 47! Wahoo.
It’s getting better, but the disease is still not cured. The money that I am raising will go towards new medications and new research to find a cure, so that parents of a baby born today won't be told that their child will not live to see adulthood.
Why am I raising money? Because I want to live to be 110 like I promised my husband, I want to see my kids grow up, go to college, get married, and I want to continue to ask my husband to buy me a MasterCraft 10 times a day for the next 64 years. Sooner or later he has got to cave. And I have a lot more waterskiing left to do. Waterskiing keeps me healthy and happy, and the happier one is, the healthier they are. So please help me raise money and fight this nasty disease with everything I have, one buoy at a time!
Please join us for the 2nd Annual Kim Wilk Water Ski Classic. June 12, 2021 at Tamarack Lake in Lakeview, MI. 4 passes of water skiing, tubing, knee boarding, wakeboarding and barefooting. Culminating with a performance by the Grand City Show Skiers. Beer provided by Short's Brewing, Food, Fun and Water. Water Skiing starts at 9am and the Ski Show is at 5pm.
