Please consider supporting a cause that is very near and dear to my family’s hearts (and livers)!
On October 19, in Kensington, Maryland, our family will again participate in and volunteer for the tenth annual Colleen’s BA 5K. Colleen’s BA 5K was organized in memory of Colleen Mitchel who was the daughter of a dear friend of mine who, like Anna, was born with biliary atresia (BA). Unfortunately, Colleen died in 2013 at the age of 19 due to complications from liver disease, while awaiting a second liver transplant.
While Anna and Colleen sadly shared the same horrible disease, they also shared the same wonderful doctors at the Johns Hopkins Pediatric Liver Center. Without the amazing team at Johns Hopkins and the generosity of organ donors, Anna would not have been able to receive not one, not two, but three liver transplants before the ripe old age of 7! We are happy to report that her health has been relatively stable since her last transplant in 2005 and Anna, being Anna, continues to take everything life throws at her in stride and enjoys life as any other 25 year old would.
We are proud to be a part of this event and are excited by the impact of our past and future fundraising and have set a family fundraising goal of $2,000!
Now, this is where you come in. If you are able to help us meet our goal and support these causes that are so near and dear to our hearts, go to Team Anna to register for the event and/or make your donation TODAY! Your gift is tax deductible, and you will receive a receipt from the Greater Washington Community Foundation*.
Thank you for your support! Susan, David, Ethan, Jonah and Anna
