Prior to COVID-19, about 1 in 8 Californians struggled with food insecurity. Since the emergence of the pandemic and mass layoffs, an unprecedented number of people don’t know where their next meal is coming from – as many as 1 in 3 families with children. The California Association of Food Banks (CAFB) is here for our neighbors and the food banks directly supporting them. Since March, CAFB has shipped 1.2 million boxes of shelf-stable food and more than 100 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables and proteins. We’ve raised more than $2.7 million in grants for our members. And we’ve doubled down on our advocacy to ensure that the most vulnerable - seniors, children, farmworkers, and people of color - are able to access healthy food through both public benefits and food banks. Your donation to CAFB supports all that and more. You can also feel free to donate directly to your local food bank or to a food bank impacted by the wildfires in our state.

What is food insecurity?

Food insecurity describes a household’s inability to provide enough food for every person to live an active, healthy life. Food insecurity is one way we can measure and assess the risk of hunger.
