I am running in honor of my uncle, Thomas, a 9/11 responder who worked tirelessly at Ground Zero in the weeks following the attacks. While the world witnessed the tragedy, he witnessed it firsthand and dedicated himself to helping others during one of our nation's darkest moments.
The experiences of those weeks changed him forever, but they never diminished the kindness, strength, and character that have defined him throughout his life. As I've grown older, I've come to better understand both the sacrifices he made and the lasting impact those events had on him.
Today, I run not only to honor his service and dedication, but also to recognize the courage it takes to carry those memories and continue moving forward. I am proud to call Thomas my uncle, and I run with gratitude for everything he has done and everything he represents.
