Birth in Color RVA is a birth, policy, and advocacy non-profit focused on raising awareness surrounding maternal health and reproductive justice. Providing services for birthing black people. We want to change the narrative of black maternal health, not only in Richmond but around the world.
Birth in Color RVA provides culturally-centered support to pregnant people, their families, and birthing communities to ensure a safe delivery and make better decisions for children. Our services range from providing expert birth workers, doulas, and lactation consultants for expecting people, to prenatal classes and racial bias training for reproductive healthcare workers.
OUR WHY
The journey to and through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period can be filled with joy, excitement, anxiety, and uncertainty. Birth In Color RVA was created to help families and communities navigate every pregnancy-related experience! In the state of Virginia, women of color are overwhelmingly excluded from the popular narratives of pregnancy and parenthood. Motivated by this knowledge, Birth in Color RVA aims to support and educate families of color so that we can help meet their pregnancy and parenthood needs.
