I am participating in this special event to honor our dear friend Don Cossean and all the first responders who have made the ultimate sacrifice during and after the tragic events on 9/11.
My husband, Ken, and I were inspired to participate in this race back in 2019 with our friends, Retired NYPD Officer Don Cossean and his wife, Carol, and a few other neighbor friends to honor the fallen first responders after the 9/11 tragedy. Little did we know that we would lose our friend, Don, 3 years later to a 9/11 related illness stemming from his time working as a NY police officer on the mound. Don radiated kindness, humor and good will to all those who were fortunate and blessed to have known him. He was always offering to lend a helping hand with a big smile as his generosity of heart knew no bounds. His life, legacy and priceless friendship will always be remembered and he will be forever missed.
As a spouse and daughter of two Navy veterans, I am also honored to be a part of this event as we know well the sacrifices and challenges military members face each day- and for some, the heartbreak of losing a loved one(s) in the line of duty. I am so grateful for all that our active duty military, veterans and first responders do for our country to keep it safe. I am looking forward to honoring and commemorating them and especially our cherished friend, Don, at this year’s Tunnel to Towers 5K as a member of the “Supernauts” team!
