After being diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), my world shifted dramatically. GBS tested me physically, emotionally, and mentally in ways I never imagined. There were moments I wasn’t sure I’d walk again—let alone participate in a 5K. That’s exactly why the Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk means so much to me.
This event isn’t just a race—it’s a tribute to courage, sacrifice, and resilience. It honors heroes like firefighter Stephen Siller, who ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel on 9/11 with 60 pounds of gear to save lives. His story reminded me that strength isn’t just about physical ability—it’s about heart, grit, and the will to keep going.
Participating in this event, rollator and all, is my way of reclaiming my body, my spirit, and my purpose. It symbolizes my recovery, but also my gratitude—for the people who supported me, for the medical teams who helped me heal, and for the heroes who inspire us to push forward no matter the odds.
Crossing that finish line isn’t just a personal victory—it’s a statement: that even after GBS, I’m still standing, still moving, and still fighting for something bigger than myself.
