Dear friends,
In February 2013 – I received my breast cancer diagnosis. It was a challenge for me and my whole family that took us on a year-long journey of treatment – which included a double mastectomy, 16 chemotherapy sessions, reconstructive surgeries and 10 years of drug therapy. Though it all, we were incredibly blessed with the support of family, friends and wonderful colleagues who lifted us up each day. I realize now how lucky I was to have good insurance coverage.
After my journey was complete, I decided to run the DONNA Half-Marathon to celebrate my survivorship. Through that experience – I became aware of the fact that a cancer diagnosis is financially toxic for many people who live paycheck to paycheck. And, that many people simply don’t have the emotional or logistical support that my family had while going through treatment. The DONNA Foundation seeks to alleviate that burden – so patients can get though their treatment without having to make the choice between their food, their rent and their treatment. I continue to support the DONNA Foundation to give back for the many blessings I had throughout my journey. If this is something that touches your heart, please join me in donating to The DONNA Foundation.
With gratitude,
Amy
