The Mackinac Bridge Swim has generously donated one free entry to the swimmer who is awarded the Liz Perri 'I can DO THIS' Memorial Scholarship (details and application found here: https://www.icandothis.live/).
In addition to a free entry, we would like to help offset training, travel and lodging expenses for the recipient. All donations will go directly to the recipient.
Liz Perri was a 2023 volunteer kayaker and a 2024 registered swimmer. Swimming the Mackinac Straits with her daughter Anne was her 'big scary goal' for her 75th birthday.
In preparing for the event, Liz trained diligently throughout the year. As the swim approached, she still found her fear of open water daunting. To manage her anxiety, she embraced mindfulness practices and kept a swim journal. In her journal, she wrote a simple yet powerful mantra: 'I can DO THIS' —words she repeated in moments of doubt or panic in the water.
Tragically, Liz passed away following a bike accident just four days before the 2024 Mackinac Bridge Swim.
We honor Liz's courage and determination by supporting future swimmers who pursue their own ambitious goals, push beyond their perceived limits, and embrace open water swimming for its wild beauty and transformative power.
