Father. Husband. Friend. Lover of life. Cancer survivor. In January 2025 we celebrated 5 years since surgery to have the tumor removed - with a scare this time around with a concerning spot on the scan, but after many specialist appointments and several additional scans it turned out to be a false alarm. It did, however, serve as a reminder that each day is a gift and that they are not to be taken for granted!
Cancer. It's still a jarring word five + years later; owning a label that no one has ever asked for, all the while becoming such a big piece of who I am. Acknowledging that not all who have been in my place have been so fortunate. Yes, on June 21st I will walk for me. But I will also walk for those who can't. Pittsburgh Cure Sarcoma has helped to fund several vital, groundbreaking studies aimed at understanding and treating this rare and oftentimes deadly form of cancer.
It is research like this that's given me a new lease on life. Research studies that others supported in years past are precisely what furthered the medical community's understanding of sarcomas and how to treat mine. I am indebted to those who gave before.
