OWI was founded in 2004 as a 100% volunteer organization with a mission is to equip and empower a rural Kenyan village to care for the orphans and widows, the sick and the poor through sponsorships. Our goal is to break the cycle of poverty through education, health and hope and to employ indigenous staff. We provide the kids with school fees, uniforms, school supplies, health care, supplemental food and social worker support. The orphans live with their widowed grandmother or other relative thus preserving the family ties. Our program success is realized by having previously destitute children graduate high school and many even colleges, who otherwise did not have any opportunities to gain education.
