Pedal the Cause

I am proud to join Pedal the Cause in the fight against cancer. Pedal the Cause is more than the region's largest cancer fundraiser. It's a celebration, a family and a movement fueled by the courage to end cancer.  This is my fifth year to participate in Pedal the Cause as a member of the team called Amying for a Cure, which was created by my good friend Rich Finley to celebrate his wife Amy's successful battle with cancer a few years ago.  Amy's cancer was treated at the Siteman Cancer Center in St Louis, and both Rich and Amy credit the Siteman Center for saving her life.  The treatment regimen was far from easy, but Amy was declared to be free of cancer after some 3 years.

In my lifetime, I have known many others who had to fight this dreadful disease,  and I'm sure you have too. All of the funds I can raise in this effort will go toward cancer research performed either at Barnes Hospital in St Louis, or at St Louis Children's Hospital, which are both affiliated with the Siteman Center.   

Pedal the Cause pays for all the  infrastructure and the contractor services required to orchestrate this huge event with money from its corporate sponsors.  This ensures that all donations from individuals can go directly into funding clinical trials and other important research to find more ways to defeat the various types of cancer that can occur in people (There are more than 250 different cancers that we know of, currently).

Our team's 21-mile ride was all set up for last Sunday morning,  but a series of strong thunderstorms moved into our area early in the day, and featured heavy rains and lightning all through the morning.  There was significant ponding on many roads, and so the local authorities strongly advised us not to ride that day.  With more than 4200 riders and 5 different courses, it would have been very unsafe to even try.  So, for the first time in 15 years, Pedal the Cause had to cancel the ride.  But the fundraising will continue, through the end of October!

Please support my efforts by donating to my fundraiser, and give with confidence knowing that 100% of your donation will fund lifesaving cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children's Hospital.  My goal is 375 dollars - if just 15 people will pledge $25 each, that will cover the total amount.
