100 kilometers/62 miles in the Arizona Desert so families can be near their children in hospital
Imagine your child with a serious illness in the hospital hundreds of miles from home. Your child needs you for comfort and support yet you can't afford the thousands of dollars a long term stay in a hotel would cost. That is where Ronald McDonald House comes to the rescue! Ronald McDonald Houses offer a comfortable home away from home and provide meals in addition to shelter thus allowing parents and siblings to be near while their child battles a serious illness in a nearby hospital. All this is provided at no charge if the family does not have the financial means to supplement the costs. In fact, about 90% of visitors stay free of charge! Payment is voluntary.
This coming October 26th I will be running and walking 100 Kilometers...or 62.2 miles in the Arizona desert in the Javelina Jundred enduring heat and blisters as I raise money for the Altanta Ronald McDonald Houses, of which there are two with proximity to children's hospitals. It won't be easy for me to complete this, especially at the age of 66! I'll do my darndest to complete this race...OK, I WILL finish this knowing that my friends, family and colleagues have generously donated their hard earned money so families can be near their kids who have a much longer race to finish.......the race to health. My goal is $3,100- Fifty dollars a mile.
I promise to train hard to complete this event. That means long runs in the Altanta summer head and humidity.
