Story

Thank you for supporting me in this historic, once-in-a-lifetime adventure that will carry on the legacy of the 29 men lost on the Edmund Fitzgerald 50 years ago.  By helping me meet my fundraising goal, you are also helping renovate the Whitefish Point Lighthouse that safeguards mariners along Lake Superior's "Shipwreck Coast."

My friend, Jen and I are doing this event together. We will be participating in a unique undertaking in 2025. Next year will mark the 50-year anniversary of the tragic sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. A documentary film is being produced and will include an open water swim of up to 68 swimmers completing the 411 miles that the Edmund Fitzgerald never got to complete. We have the privilege of being two of those swimmers. Iron ore will be passed from swimmer to swimmer as we travel from the site of the sunken ship to the intended destination in Detroit, symbolically completing the Edmund Fitzgerald’s last mission.

A quick background of how Jen and I got involved with this adventure. We have been friends since both of our oldest kids were in kindergarten (a long time ago). After connecting on and off throughout a couple of decades, we had the idea of joining Masters Swimming together. The MLAM swimming community is an amazing group of people of all ages and swim backgrounds! 2023 was our first open water season and we fell in love with open water swimming! We have had many adventures surrounding open water swimming and this exceptional group of swimmers. Some highlights have been Mackinac Island, Big Shoulders, New York, and all the memorable Saturday team swims. And next year.... the Edmund Fitzgerald Swim!

There is a wealth of information about the Edmund Fitzgerald and the upcoming open water swim and documentary at www.edmundfitzgeraldswim.org All swimmers are expected to raise a minimum of $2,500 that will go to preserve the Whitefish Point Lighthouse. Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society is the charity in charge of the preservation project and 100% of funds raised will go to this 501 (c)(3) organization (tax deductible). There are three ways you can get involved, please see below.
1) Pray for the safety and success of the organizers and participants, that the 29 people that died and their families would be honored through this journey, and most importantly that God would be glorified.
2) Sign up to swim. Unfortunately, all spots recently filled but they are taking wait list signups.
3) Donate Here.

Thank you for your consideration of teaming with Jen and me on this once in a lifetime adventure. Feel free to contact us with any questions.
