It's back! After a few years of cancelled or virtual Peaks to Portland swims we are going back into the beautiful waters around Peaks Island for a little adventure and challenge and a chance to raise some money for an organization that means a lot to me. When I started doing this swim years ago fundraising was an afterthought. That all changed when I heard a pre-race talk from a woman whose life was changed by the YMCA of South Portland. They provided safe an appropriate childcare that allowed her to finish her college degree and go on to a career in healthcare. This is not just a gym. They are committed to building community, promoting healthy habits, and helping children develop positive learning, social and health skills. They are the real deal. A lot of you have been very generous in your support of my involvement in the race over the years. I thank you for that and hope you will consider doing it again.
I can't wait to get in the water. This is a 2.4 mile open water swim. I have been swimming year round in open water for more than a decade now. For the last two winters that has meant swimming 1-2 times a week with no wetsuit in water as cold as 33 degrees. That has been a great adventure. The wetsuit will be back for this swim (it helps me go a little faster). I am still figuring out my plans, but if past experience is any guide this will be an adventure shared with kind and generous friends.
As I participate in the Peaks to Portland swim, I'm not just tackling the waves – I'm helping the YMCA of Southern Maine make a wave in the lives of our local kids! Donations to my swim go directly towards the Y's vital programs that promote healthy growth and development for all children. Every contribution, big or small, ensures every kid has the opportunity to thrive. Join me in supporting this incredible cause by donating today – together, we can make a splash for our future generation!
