My brother was my best friend. In his 2.5 years of physical life, we grew a bond that was full of as much vibrancy as the sunsets and rainbows he sends down to remind us of his lasting presence in our lives. 

Cash fought like no other. He was born premature, with some developing left to do. He spent over a month in the NICU until he was brought home. He lived out his 2.5 years with as much vigor and joy as any other boy his age. Time stood still when he suddenly left us. 

My favorite memories of Cash were hearing his voice as he called my name when I would come home from school or when I would have to leave. His favorite snack food was Hawaiian bread straight from the bag. He loved Peppa Pig and jumping in puddles. We enjoyed watching sports together and laughing at ourselves using Snapchat filters. In more ways than one, he was my mini-me. I love him to the ends of the Universe and back. 

The story of Love Hard came about as a way to explain this undying, unrelenting love that shows up in moments where it fills voids in our hearts and stays with us in permanence, like a hug that never lets go. Unconditional.

As we move through the ebbs and flows of grieving Cash, we realize how many families experience this same pain quietly. In honor of my brother, it would mean the world to be able to pass forward the eternal light that Cash carries through each of us on to other families needing the same support, compassion, and community that we’ve received along the way.
