Established in 2007, The Luis de Souza Pinto '02 Memorial Scholarship awards 2-5 scholarships per year to Men's Rugby Club members, focused on aiding international students or international studies majors. JMU is one of two Virginia schools to award scholarships to rugby players, and provides a strong inducement to high school seniors looking to continue their rugby careers at JMU. With an endowment of over $76,000 at the end of 2023, our goal is to grow the principal within the endowment to $100,000 by 2025, which would make JMU Rugby the largest endowed sports club scholarship at the university. The scholarship allows us to remain competitive in recruiting as the sport of rugby grows in America, and continues to keep alive the spirit of Big L.
