I lost my dad to the disease of addiction via fentanyl overdose. When once I blamed him for leaving his family and choosing drugs, I now empathize with him after experiencing active addiction myself. I am currently in recovery, a god given second chance at life that my dad didn’t get to have. I recover out loud so people don’t have to die in silence and so my dad’s death is not in vain. I walk for him and the family and friends I lost to addiction, and in support of my recovery and all those I love and care about that I met in recovery who are actively saving their lives one day at a time.
