Our mission at Elk Hill is to enable children and families to transform overwhelming challenges into successful futures.
For over 52 years, Elk Hill’s commitment has enabled us to provide thousands of youth the skills and tools necessary to succeed. Buford Scott, a Richmond businessman and philanthropist, donated his 350-acre family farm in Goochland to allow children-in-need to benefit from the serenity of the hills and pastures of this beautiful area.
Elk Hill offers specialized education, community-based services and residential treatment programs. We have grown into a regional organization serving 900 youth across Central Virginia each year. We have developed programs to include mental and behavioral health interventions for the Children we serve, specialized literacy programs, workforce development education, as well as providing mental health support and counseling services in the community. The Elk Hill Farm Campus is home to our Administrative offices, the Harambee Day School which serves up to 30 students and two Group Homes that provides residential services for 16 youth.
