Together we can unite, including the surrounding communities.
Making a difference in Woodlawn and the surrounding communities such as Washington Park, Hyde Park, Englewood, South Shore, and Chatham tuggs at the heart of our mission. By creating platforms that unite these neighborhoods, we aim to showcase and support local small business owners, fostering economic growth and collaboration. These efforts not only enhance our community but also build stronger connections between Woodlawn and surrounding communities, promoting shared prosperity and a unified vision for the future.
WDA is a charitable, educational, athletic, and social organization that promote activities, events, and small businesses in an effort to create a positive environment in the Chicago Woodlawn Community and its surrounding neighborhoods.
The Woodlawn Food Truck Fest began in 2017 as a collaboration among neighbors from the Woodlawn community in conjunction with the Soulful Book Fair. The purpose was to bring the entire Woodlawn Community together by creating an event that families and friends of the neighborhood could enjoy great mobile cuisines, at affordable prices, while experiencing a variety of literacy from great authors and live entertainment.
Our Focus
In an effort to expand, providing more opportunities for the kids and small businesses of the community, Woodlawn Diversity In Action was created in 2019, sponsoring not only the Woodlawn Food Truck Fest, but also the Woodlawn5KDash and Woodlawn’s Got Talent.
We have evolved in order to bring more summertime fun events (like Black Wall Street!), while also remaining focused on spreading awareness to mental health and violence prevention among our youth, two topics very important to the health of the community.
