Delilah came to us in July of last year with her three house mates, she was 10 years old. Their owner, an elderly lady, had to go into a nursing home and the family didn't want to keep the dogs. The three dogs she came in with were quickly adopted but, Delilah had Cushing's Disease and was not a good candidate for adoption! Knowing my love of all things Jack Russell my staff encouraged me to visit her in her kennel. When I set eyes on her I just couldn't think of euthanizing her and quickly made the decision take her on as a hospice case (Cushing's makes dogs extremely thirsty, all the time and, urinate, a lot. This makes life very stressful for owners). At Christmas Delilah was also diagnosed with diabetes, a condition often associated with Cushing's.
Our Foster Department often places animals into hospice care, where they can live out their last days with dignity. Delilah is really challenging, but providing her with the care she needs has made me truly appreciate the work our foster program and, our foster volunteers really do. As they say, every little bit helps, so please help me to ensure that less fortunate dogs, like Delilah, have one last chance at life!
THANK YOU!
