Shuvanon's Story

Hi everyone!

This is year 2 of us raising money for money research for the treatment of Sarcomas. If you've been here before, welcome back! If you are unfamiliar with our story, welcome!
Now let me tell you about the very special man that we will be raising money in honor of, Shuvanon. Shuvanon and I have been together since high school (this year was our 13th anniversary- 2 of those wonderful years married). From the moment I met Shuvanon, I knew he was different. He made me laugh when no one else could and just immediately had such a magnetic personality. I knew he was someone I'd want in my life forever. Shuvanon is a kind soul, always trying to help others in whatever way he can. Shuvie was in his last semester of his graduate program when he was diagnosed with cancer. Stage 4 Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumors (DSRCT) at just 26 years old. DSRCT is an incredibly rare and aggressive form of sarcoma. I did the math and we're talking 1/3 out of a BILLION chances of getting it, kind of rare. It is considered a pediatric cancer due to it being caused by an incorrect translocation of two chromosomes that occur in childhood- the Wilm's tumor and the Ewings chromosomes. They aren't exactly sure what causes it and the options for treatment are very limited. It is cancers like these, the Forgotten Cancers, that desperately need funding for more research. Please consider joining our team or donating to support Shuvanon, and so many others, while they fight sarcoma.
Some Sarcoma facts:
  • Sarcomas make up about 1 percent of all adult cancers
  • Sarcomas make up about 15-20 percent of all pediatric cancers
  • Sarcomas are cancers of the connective tissues- such as bones, fats, cartilage, muscles, blood vessels and nerves
  • There are around 100 different subtypes of sarcomas
  • The 2 main categories of sarcomas are soft-tissue sarcomas and bone sarcomas
  • Sarcomas are considered the "Forgotten Cancers" because of how rare they are and their lack of treatment options
All of my love,
Kait
