Learning about autism has been an eye-opening and deeply impactful experience in my life. As a father of two boys who are both on the autism spectrum, I’ve come to understand that everyday moments many people take for granted can sometimes present unique challenges. Learning how to support them through daily routines, communication, school, and social situations has been both incredibly challenging and deeply rewarding. I thank my wife Anna for consistently educating me and sending me informative news relating to autism.
Over time, I’ve learned that patience, understanding, and consistency make a huge difference. Every small victory matters—whether it’s mastering a new task, building confidence in a social setting for both Owen and Samson or simply navigating the world a little more comfortably than the day before. Watching our children grow, learn, and develop their own strengths continues to inspire me every day.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to face these challenges alongside them and to keep learning how to better support their journey. Anna and I as parent’s - is to help Owen and Samson build the tools they need to live happy, independent lives and to give them the confidence to navigate not only school, but a world that can sometimes feel overwhelming. Like many families raising children on the autism spectrum, we’ve learned that having the right resources, community support, and advocacy can make a tremendous difference.
That’s one of the reasons we are participating in the Flutie 5K for Autism. This event raises money for programs and services that help individuals and families affected by autism. These resources provide support, education, and opportunities that empower families and help children reach their full potential.
