Kahians was founded by Leo F Kahian in 1952. Leo started his career in sales working for Arthur and Russell Pitnoff at Pitnoff Furniture in Dorchester, MA. Arthur and Russell were amazing mentors to Leo, even encouraging him to open his own store, which was a dream of his, but he did not have the funding. When he left Pitnoff Furniture to sell vacuum cleaners door to door, they told him to come back when he was ready to open his own store. After 3 very successful years in door-to-door sales, the Pitnoffs lent him the funding needed to open Kahians in 1952. The rest was history!
The first Kahians store was a 200 square foot room added on to the front of the home Leo shared with his wife, Eva, and their 10 children at 866 Center Street in Middleboro, MA, offering appliances, floor coverings and home furnishings. In the beginning, Leo was on the selling floor in the morning and in the afternoon, Eva took over the duties of the store while he went out on deliveries! They were quite the family affair!
In 1984, Kahians expanded moving into an 18,000 Square Foot building on Route 44 in Middleboro, MA , with their son, Steven Kahian, leading the team. Steve’s tenure with Kahians started in 1959 at the age of 12!
We have continued the family tradition and since 1996 are at 96 Long Pond Road in Plymouth, MA. When you come into our store, you are sure to see a member of the Kahians family.
