I first attended USHThis camp in 2023 in New Jersey. Although I was very hesitant, that week had such a profound effect on me that I have raised money for the camp every year since. USHThis camp is truly a one-of-a-kind experience for me and everyone else who attends each year. The amount of memories and moments crammed into that week make the whole summer seem double the length. At camp, I have made valuable friendships, gained crucial skills for living with Usher Syndrome, and found role models that inspire me every day.
This year, I am doing a unique fundraiser, where I will be doing a number of pull-ups every other day decided by dice I’ll roll. I chose this fundraiser idea partially because it lines up with some personal fitness goals of mine, but also because, to me, it represents pulling oneself out of the confusion and sadness the disease can bring. When I am doing this fundraiser, I am pulling myself out of that bad place, and looking for the beautiful things that come with my situation, such as the Usher community. That community is a spectacular thing, and with your help, we can continue it at USHThis Camp 2027!
