On July 20, 2020, James McCary was diagnosed with T-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma (T-LBL) just shy of his 5th birthday and at the very beginning of the pandemic. While he was declared cancer-free in September 2020, he was expected to undergo two full years of chemotherapy. In October 2021, a batch of suspicious cells in his spinal fluid showed evidence that his disease had returned in his central nervous system. James underwent additional intense chemotherapy treatments, radiation, and an allogeneic stem cell transplant over Christmas in 2021.
Today, James is a flourishing 10-year-old fifth grader. We are extreamly blessed that his stem cell transplant was successful and that he is here with us today. Rett's Roost has supported our family through this difficult time and we are raising funds through the Superhero run to support other families who are facing a childhood cancer.
Rett's Roost, is an Ogunquit-based nonprofit that serves families impacted by childhood cancer and child loss. This organization is doing amazing work, and they need our help to continue offering their free, meaningful programs.
Rett's Roost's mission is to be a source of hope and healing for families impacted by childhood cancer and child loss, offering holistic retreats and meaningful gatherings that create connection, while honoring the process of grief and the power of love.
They've cultivated a community of families pursuing a path of healing through their traumatic shared experience.
Please consider supporting my fundraiser, showing children with cancer and their families that love and hope are never far from reach.
