The Marine Mammal Center Ke Kai Ola is the only hospital dedicated to rehabilitating Hawaiian monk seals. We receive patients from across the archipelago and provide life-saving care to give them a second chance and return them to the wild. We are also the lead responder for Hawaiian monk seals on Hawai‘i Island, and we operate a hotline for reporting monk seal sightings.
Every sighting reported provides valuable information to our team, allowing us to respond immediately to seals in need of rescue or set up resting areas for healthy seals who haul out on busy beaches. In addition to our work with seals in the hospital and on the beach, our education programs in Hawai‘i connect students with science and stewardship and provide professional development for classroom teachers.
