Guiding Light was first established as West Fulton Mission in 1929 out of a need to provide meals for the less fortunate in the community. Shortly after moving to its new location, Guiding Light started what would become one of the most important components of its program - offering treatment for those struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. This would eventually develop into the S.T.A.R.T. program. The program has continued to evolve and is now the New Life in Christ program.

Today, Guiding Light continues to fulfill the mission set forth by its founders. They continue to provide services to the homeless and suffering while sharing the love of Christ with those in need. As our community moves into the future, Guiding Light's mission remains to provide recovery and re-engagement for those living at society’s margins.

Guiding Light's Principals:

Christ-Centered – Recognizing Christ as part of the Trinity, we base all our actions on the teachings and Lordship of Jesus Christ, according to scripture.

Collaborative – We recognize that each member of the community has unique and essential strengths that must be utilized together to fulfill God’s purpose.

Courage –Fueled by an inner drive and determination to live by our core values, individually and as a team, during triumphs and challenges.

Integrity – We are honest, thoughtful and well-intentioned in all our dealings with others including fellow employees, our clients, our donors, and the community.

Loving – We strive to serve with respect, humility, and kindness as we are all equals according to God (the Lord).

Stewardship – We are responsible to God and all stakeholders for making the best use of our entrusted time, talents, and treasure.

Prayer – We recognize the need to place our lives before the Lord through prayer.
