History
One of the region’s oldest heating and air conditioning firms, Kalins traces its roots to 1921 when Jacob Kalin founded the Norfolk Furnace Company in Sioux City. At that time Jacob was a partner in the Sioux City Foundry and Boiler Co., the predecessor to today’s Sioux City Foundry.

Jacob began selling the Norfolk brand coal burning furnaces manufactured by the foundry. Later, he pioneered the gas furnace business in the area, developing a Norfolk gas furnace with the assistance of the chief engineer at Iowa Public Service Company.

Following WWII, Jacob formed a relationship with Lennox as a dealer for the Marshalltown, Iowa based manufacturer of heating and air conditioning equipment. That relationship continues today.

In 1947, Jacob moved his business to its current location at 1715 4th Street in Sioux City. Around the same time, the company adopted the Kalins Heating and Air Conditioning name and Sid Kalin (Jacob’s son) started working at the company.

Sid Kalin, an icon in the heating and cooling industry, managed the business until 1989, when his son, Bruce Kalin, purchased the business.

Bruce had been operating his own heating and air conditioning business, Kalins Indoor Comfort, in Vermillion, SD since 1983.  With the acquisition of Sioux City, the firm's two locations are known as Kalins Indoor Comfort. In 2013, Bruce expanded the service area to Yankton, SD.
