Could this be Your Parent?
Bud has Alzheimer's disease and had been living with his daughter, June, since her mother died in 2007.  When June's mother died, Bud wanted to live in his home alone. June watched her father become very depressed and isolated.  He missed his wife and had stopped eating. June worked full-time and was unable to check in on her father as often as was needed. June called Senior Services Associates to provide an in-home assessment to determine what Bud would need to live safely and independently in his home.  When the care coordinator met with June & Bud, she suggested that Bud get nutritious meals delivered to his home every day. These meals would help Bud's health improve and give June peace of mind that someone was checking on him while she was at work.  The care coordinator suggested Bud get a medical alert device that would let her know if Bud had fallen or if something more serious happened when he was home alone. These suggestions were implemented and life went smoothly for a while.
Unfortunately, Bud's Azheimers Disease worsened and June decided to stay home and become his caregiver. Senior Services was called and met with June and Bud in June's home.   Bud qualified for personal assistance with bathing and the care coordinator helped June get bath bars, and a raised toilet seat for her home. As time progressed, the stress of taking care of Bud began to affect Junes health. June was isolated and lonely because she was afraid to leave Bud alone to run errands or even see her own doctor. June confided in the Senior Services care coordinator that she needed help. The care coordinator offered a caregiver respite opportunity through the Senior Companion Program so June could get out on a weekly basis. Bud began receiving weekly visits with a Canine Companion and his handler. Bud now had two new friends visiting him thanks to the arrangement created through the Senior Services Senior Companion Program.
Finally, Bud's Alzheimer's Disease progressed to the point where June could no longer care for her father in her home.   Again, she called Senior Services Associates and met with the local Ombudsman who educated her on the Long Term Care options available that were close to her home. With the help of Senior Services, June found the perfect facility close to her home and that will let Buds canine companion visit. June is grateful for the expertise offered by Senior Services and has felt good about her choices to help her father every step of the way. June often says Senior Services gave her hope and help when no one else could. "This organization helped me give my father the life he wanted to live. He has been able to age with dignity and as much independence as possible. I  couldn't have done it without their support!"
