The reason I’m training for a 5k really isn’t about me; and it isn’t because I LOVE to RUN. It’s about giving back to a hospital in our community that takes great care of children.
Most people don’t know this about me, but over 30 years ago I was in a serious bike accident. My parents depended heavily on the expert medical team at All Children’s and the kindness and generosity of The Ronald McDonald House in St. Pete. I am alive today because of nurse Susan B., who was first on the scene, and a team of miracle workers at All Children’s Hospital. I have come a long way in the past 30 years, and I am eternally grateful for all they have done. I will never forget their kindness and look forward to the opportunity to finally give back.
Even after running a handful of 5k's and my first half marathon a couple years ago, I still don’t have competitive PB’s (Personal Bests), nor do I subscribe to any running magazines.
I can’t run fast, and I don’t run far, but that hasn’t kept me from training for the races that benefit children and their families who need us to rally and bring attention to their immediate needs.
This will be my first “solo run”, so I’d like to encourage you to join my team, The Just Us League.

I run, but in my case, the word “Run” is slightly misleading, as I propel myself forward at a moderately faster pace than a speed walk…. I set my interval timer for 45 minutes and continue to build up more distance and speed on each run. At the end of my run, I don’t have much to show for it. It’s nothing like baking a cake or finishing a great book... but with your encouragement and support, I’m giving this all I’ve got on September 28th!
